Caring for your gorgeous blooms. A bouquet of bright blooms can bring cheerfulness to any space and leave an impression, even after they are gone. Whether you have received a Birthday bouquet or just spoilt yourself with beautiful blooms for your home, you will want to appreciate them for as long as possible. The sad reality is that flowers are not eternal. On the positive side, there are rules and tips you can use to preserve the longevity of your flowers.

  • Trim The Stems To extend the life of your flowers here are some flower care guidelines. Follow these instructions to extend the life of your flowers. At Bloomhaus your flowers are already cut and ready to put into a vase just add your preservative to fresh water which is supplied with your bouquet. Every few days change the water and trim the stems on an angle with garden shears or florist snips this will allow the flowers to drink with ease and the freshwater will hydrate your blooms.
  • Prune Remove any leaves below the water line. It will make your bouquet look nicer and inhibit bacterial growth. Check your blooms daily for lifeless leaves and petals to avoid bacterial decay.
  • Fresh Water Your flowers won’t last long without water, especially once their stems have been cut. Fill a clean vase with room temperature water and add the flower packet provided with fresh water. Make sure that the packet has been mixed thoroughly. It is important to clean your vase and change the water and flower food every two to three days. For boxed or ceramic vase arrangements make sure to top up every day with fresh water, they need watering too!.
  • Enviroment Avoid placing your fresh flowers in direct sunlight, near hot appliances, near draughts or air from fans, air conditioning, open windows. Some flowers, like tulips, are sensitive to heat. Keep cut flowers away from fresh fruit, it emits ethylene gas that accelerates the flower's wilting process.
  • DIY Flower food. Fill your vase with three parts water, one part Sprite (for sugar), and a few drops of bleach to kill bacteria. Another flower food recipe is to mix two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar, two tablespoons of sugar, and half a teaspoon of bleach into a quart vase of water.
  •  Vodka. Adding Vodka to your cut flowers actually decelerates their aging process. The alcohol in vodka impedes flowers from producing ethylene gas, which causes flowers to wilt prematurely.
  •  Separate harmful flowers Fresh-cut hyacinths, irises, and daffodils produce toxic chemicals that kill other flowers sharing the same water source. Keep flowers in a separate container for a day before combining them with other flower varieties
